HISTORY

Harvest Records is an award-winning, independent record store founded in the summer of 2004 by co-owners Matt Schnable and Mark Capon. An anchor business on Haywood Road in West Asheville, Harvest has carved out an essential space in the community not only as a retail store, but as a central hub for cultural creativity in Western North Carolina.

Harvest is committed to providing an authentic, open-minded, engaging record store experience for its visitors. The friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you comb through a massive inventory of new & used vinyl, CDs, cassettes, stereo equipment, books, DVDs, vinyl accessories and beyond. They're dedicated to maintaining fruitful relationships with dozens of distributors, big and small, to keep retail prices as low as possible for the customer.

You can also count on monthly art openings, annual participation in Record Store Day, a storewide anniversary sale every August, occasional in-store performances, listening parties, and plenty of other special events to help keep things fresh and exciting beyond the normal retail activity. Historically, Harvest promoted hundreds of local concerts all over Asheville and WNC until 2013 (list of those artists here), created its own festival, Transfigurations, to celebrate reaching both its 5-year & 10-year anniversaries and also created its own boutique record label (R.I.P.) to release limited-edition pressings of beloved music (shop here).

Harvest is proud to have made it this long through the variety of challenges that independent record stores face - and they couldn’t have done it without such a loving, inclusive, supportive community.
